Yungang Grottoes: Multicultural fusion of arts

The "International Insights into China" event, with journalists and students from countries such as Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Kazakhstan as participants, is ongoing from Oct 13 to 19.

The event is guided by the Cyberspace Administration of China’s network communication bureau, and co-hosted by the Cyberspace Administration of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Cyberspace Administration of Shanxi Province, and China Daily Website.

On Oct 18, the international delegation will visit the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Shanxi province.

The Yungang Grottoes, China's first large-scale Buddhist grotto complex commissioned by the royal family after Buddhism spread eastward, date back over 1,500 years. The intricate carvings in the caves combine artistic influences from India, Central Asia, and Greco-Roman traditions, reflecting the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534)'s openness, inclusivity, and artistic innovation.
