The coastal city of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has experienced a transformative year, with major milestones and ambitious goals outlined in the 2025 government work report.

Here's a snapshot of the city's achievements and plans:

Key milestones in 2024:

- The success of Wenzhou-Kean University was praised by China's top leader.

- Hosted significant events like the Yangtze River Delta Leaders' Summit, the World Young Scientists Summit and the Maritime Silk Road Cities Conference, showcasing Wenzhou's global appeal.

- Wenzhou Medical University team won second prize in the National Natural Science Award.

- Local athletes shone at the Paris Olympics, securing three golds, two silvers and one bronze medal.

- Integration projects like the southern Zhejiang regional cooperation and port-city industrial development gained momentum.

- Major infrastructure achievements included the opening of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway, approval of the Wenzhou Airport Phase III expansion and the initiation of the San'ao Nuclear Power Plant Phase II.

Economic growth and innovation:

- The city's GDP grew by over 6 percent, reaching 970 billion yuan ($133.2 billion), while per capita disposable income rose by 4.6 percent in urban areas and 6.3 percent in rural areas.

- Added about 213,000 university graduates and skilled workers to Wenzhou's talent pool.

- Unveiled 1,200 strategic projects, representing a total investment of over 1.2 trillion yuan.

- Accelerated innovation with projects like the China Digital Security Harbor and Wenzhou's emerging industrial parks in AI, gene therapy and laser technology.

Plans for 2025:

- Targeting 6 percent GDP growth and increasing public budget revenue.

- Enhancing global connectivity by expanding international air routes and the China-Europe freight train network.

- Advancing digital and industrial transformation, with high-tech and strategic emerging industries expected to grow by 13.1 percent and 14.7 percent, respectively.

- Maintaining low unemployment, with the urban jobless rate targeted at below 5 percent.
