Sinotruk expands South American presence through localization

The 500 Units of Sinotruk Pickups Exported to Ecuador First Dispatch Ceremony was recently held in Jinan, capital of Shandong province.

In January, Jinan-based China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, also known as Sinotruk, signed a 500-unit pickup order with Vehicentro, Ecuador's largest car dealer, worth over $6 million. One hundred of the vehicles were handed over to Ecuadorian dealers at the ceremony.

As it seeks to expand its international presence, Sinotruk adheres to localization principles. Many South American countries have economies based on agriculture, mining, and construction, so Sinotruk has tailored the cargo-carrying, off-road, and family-use functions of its pickups to meet local production and transportation needs.

The pickups exported to South America were developed in close cooperation with local dealers to meet local demands. They have undergone dozens of technical improvements based on local climate, terrain, road conditions, fuel quality, and driving habits. An altitude recognition system was created to avoid power loss in high-altitude areas. A dual-stage fuel filtration system was developed to enhance fuel adaptability. Key components like exhaust pipes and drive shafts were upgraded to handle highly corrosive environments. Furthermore, a Spanish-language interaction system was also developed to improve the user experience.

"This partnership has led to a relationship marked by trust and success, and it has helped us to redefine what a pickup is capable of," said two Ecuadorian customer representatives at the event, expressing their trust and recognition of Chinese car companies.
