On June 25, John, who had just undergone umbilical hernia surgery and was discharged early when he suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism, was sent to the hospital's emergency room.
The team, led by Zhang Jinzhou, vice-president of the Cardiovascular Hospital, decided to perform an open chest thrombectomy for John.
With the cooperation of deputy chief Wang Ximing and doctor Zhu Junzhao, as well as the support of the extracorporeal circulation team, Zhang cut open the pulmonary artery and conducted the surgery.
John was sent to an extracardiac ICU and woke up two hours after the surgery. Director Zhao Lei's team tailored a treatment plan for him.
