Ningxia strives to make millennium heritage vivid in modern times

In recent years, Yinchuan in Ningxia Hui autonomous region has continued to explore ways to bring intangible cultural heritage into modern life.
The city currently has 305 representative ICH projects at various levels. It also has 653 representative inheritors of ICH, along with 95 ICH protection and inheritance centers, and 23 ICH employment workshops.

It has invested 32.46 million yuan ($4.57 million) in building seven city and county level ICH exhibition centers, laying a foundation for the protection and preservation of the city's rich heritage.

Now, there is a greater emphasis on thoroughly interpreting the historical origins, cultural connotations, aesthetic values, and spiritual character behind each ICH item to enhance its cultural attributes and contemporary vitality.

Promoting the inclusion of ICH items in schools is a key step for Yinchuan to enhance the spread of ICH education and explore cultural meanings from a young age.
The city currently has established ICH inheritance bases in 36 schools, as well as developed a series of ICH-themed study courses and received more than 1,500 batches of study groups annually.

The city is also exploring paths to integrate ICH with industries to realize innovative development.

At Helan Inkstone Workshop in Xixia district, visitors can watch the inheritor carving on-site, try simple polishing in the experience area, and purchase their favorite inkstones or cultural and creative products in the exhibition area.

By combining the production of Helan inkstones with tourism experiences, the workshop attracts many tourists and generates considerable output value each year.
