'ICH at Your Fingertips' event held in Yinchuan

As part of the Ningxia Library's "Reading Tour of Ningxia" initiative, the "Intangible Cultural Heritage at Your Fingertips" event was held at No 4 Elementary School of Xixia district, Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region on Nov 13.

This event, co-hosted by the Ningxia Library and the school, provided students with an immersive experience into the world of intangible cultural heritage by showcasing two traditional crafts: tie-dyeing and dough modeling, engaging students in hands-on activities.

In the tie-dyeing classroom, Wang Hongli, an ICH inheritor from Yinchuan's Jinfeng district, led an engaging lesson on the history and techniques of tie-dyeing. She discussed the fundamental principles of resist-dyeing and the symbolic meaning behind traditional patterns like butterflies and lotus flowers. Students eagerly designed their own designs on white cloth using natural indigo dye, enjoying the thrill of watching their unique blue designs come to life.

The dough modeling session led by Ma Jinglei, a dough modeling ICH inheritor, fascinated students as he demonstrated basic techniques like kneading and shaping. Students eagerly turned simple dough into imaginative creations, transforming the classroom into a lively workshop brimming with creativity and joy.

A representative from the Ningxia Library emphasized their dedication to exploring new ways for cultural integration and heritage preservation. "We aim to bring more high-quality cultural activities to the youth, allowing the seeds of traditional culture to take root and flourish in their hearts."
