Printmaking artists from Shenjiahe folk culture village in Yuanzhou district, Guyuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, were recently invited to Beijing to participate in an exhibition of Chinese farmers' paintings titled Colorful Brushstrokes Upon the Earth.
Bringing with them the rustic charm and cultural depth of Ningxia, these artists left a lasting impression on the stage of the Chinese capital.
During their stay in Beijing, the creators not only showcased a collection of meticulously crafted prints but also engaged in live demonstration services, using ink and brush to vividly display the allure of printmaking techniques.
The group also participated in an intangible cultural heritage exchange event with students and teachers from the School Attached to the Central Academy of Art & Design, sharing the unique flavor of Shenjiahe printmaking in an interactive setting.
Comprising both inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and young creators, the team uses carving tools and paint to depict the new landscape of their hometown. Their works, rich with the scent of the earth, vividly document the arduous journey of poverty alleviation in Ningxia and illustrate vibrant scenes of rural vitalization.
Shenjiahe, despite being a small mountainous village with a population of fewer than 300, boasts deep cultural roots. The village is home to many craftsmen who, in addition to printmaking, excel in creating clay sculptures, paper cuttings, embroidery, puppetry, and shadow plays. These works are distinctive and expertly crafted, showcasing the diverse charm of rural culture.
