Guyuan Museum and the Liupan Mountains in Guyuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, are great places for visitors to recall the history of the Silk Road.

In the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), Chinese envoy Zhang Qian began his journey to the Western regions via Central Asia and opened up a trade route that later became the Silk Road. Every Silk Road caravan, heading west from Chang'an (present-day Xi'an, Shaanxi province), encounters the first mountain range, in the form of the Liupan Mountains that stretch across the southern part of Ningxia.

There were endless caravans and delegations traveling in the past, blending Chinese and Western cultures. The brilliant treasures of silk civilization can be seen at Guyuan Museum today.
