Zhang Jun's visit to Cuba and Mexico achieves fruitful results

Zhang Jun, secretary of the CPC Committee of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), led a delegation to Cuba and Mexico to carry out exchange and cooperation activities from Sept 14 to 22, achieving fruitful results.

During their stay in Cuba, Zhang and his delegation had exchanges with Walter Baluja García, the country's minister of higher education, and deputy minister Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar.

They visited the Cuban Immunodiagnosis Analysis Center, Universidad de La Habana, and the Universidad Tecnologica de La Habana, signing cooperation memorandums with these institutions. This visit marked the first time a BIT delegation had visited Cuba.

During their visit to Cuba, the two sides launched the technological cooperation project "Development and Application Research of Automated Detection Equipment for Respiratory Infectious Diseases Based on Digital Microfluidics". The project was jointly proposed by Zhang Shuailong from the School of Integrated Circuits and Electronics, BIT, and the Cuban Immunodiagnosis Analysis Center. This project was the only national key research and development plan approved in the medical technology field between China and Cuba in 2023.

At the Universidad de La Habana and the Universidad Tecnologica de La Habana, Zhang learned the history, key disciplines, research characteristics of the two universities. Memorandums on inter-school cooperation were signed, aiming to enhance student exchanges and research collaboration in the field of key disciplines in the future.

Hua Xin, Chinese ambassador to Cuba, commended the cooperation between BIT and research institutions as well as universities in Cuba. Hua said that the embassy will fully support the high-quality academic and technological cooperation between BIT and various sectors in Cuba.

In Mexico, Zhang Jun and his delegation visited the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Instituto Politécnico Nacional, where they signed memorandums with for future cooperation.

Zhang Jun and Zhang Run, China's ambassador to Mexico, held discussions on deepening academic exchanges and expanding international scientific and technological cooperation between China and Mexico. Zhang Run said China attaches great importance to the development of Sino-Mexican relations.

He said he hoped that BIT would leverage its expertise in specific fields to further advance cooperation in the aviation sector between China and Mexico.
