Qiu Huifang, associate professor in the Department of Physical Education, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and a world champion of tai chi competition, has recently visited Switzerland to give a lecture on the traditional Chinese exercise.
During the visit, Qiu took classes with officials from the International Olympic Committee and other international organizations based in Lausanne and Geneva, and delivered special lectures on the historical and cultural background of tai chi, as well as relevant information on the international standard certification for tai chi in modern competitions.
During her visit, Qiu was warmly received by Thomas Bach, the IOC president. Qiu gave a rundown on BIT activities, especially the university's physical education work.
During the visit, IOC officials expressed their hope that more teachers and students from BIT could participate in relevant institutions to contribute to international cultural and sports exchanges.
Qiu, a core member of the national tai chi standardization project team, has worked on ISO international certification work, laying a solid foundation for the internationalization of tai chi and the entry of martial arts into the Olympics.
