BIT students win top prize in the 2024 OceanBase Database Contest

The members of team OBCraft

The OBCraft team from the School of Computer Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), achieved the top prize at the 2024 National College Student Computer System Ability Competition & OceanBase Database Contest on Jan 12.

As the top prize winner, team OBCraft earned a prize of 100,000 yuan (around $13,730). This is the first time that BIT has won the top prize in this competition.

The OceanBase Database Contest started in 2021 and was upgraded to a national-level competition in 2023.

In 2024, it attracted a total of 1,212 teams from across the country. With the aim of communication and growth, the competition was designed to help students systematically learn database theory, accumulate and enhance practical experience and skills in databases, and collectively promote the development of database talents.

The School of Computer Science and Technology focuses on nurturing a culture of extracurricular technological innovation among students, continuously enhancing the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents. In 2024, students achieved outstanding results in extracurricular technological innovation, with 9 students participating in international-level competitions and 308 students participating in national-level competitions, collectively winning 170 gold medals/first prizes/top prizes.
