SPG sets new Hainan branch to create major opportunities

The official opening of the Shandong Port Group's newest branch which was held on Sept 9 in Haikou  Hainan province – the port city and capital of China's southernmost province of Hainan – marked a major milestone for the newly established port business operator based on Qingdao in Northeast China, an SPG spokesman said.

He said it mean that SPG, which was established in August last year, had taken the initiative to implement national strategies and seize opportunities -- presented by the construction of a free trade port in Hainan -- as part of its efforts to pursue further development in the province.

Huo Gaoyuan, Party secretary and chairman of SPG and Li Fengli, deputy Party secretary, director and general manager of SPG, attended the ceremony and unveiled the nameplate for the Hainan branch.

Officials said the construction of Hainan free trade port is a significant strategic decision made by Chinese authorities to further reforms and the general opening up of the economy.

In response to the new port, Hainan has attracted enterprises nationwide as plenty of policies and abundant resources support the facility, they added.

The SPG spokesman said his company obtained a leading strategic position in Hainan free trade port at the first opportunity, gaining the initiative and first-mover opportunity to explore the province's resources.

Established on May 20 in Haikou, the Hainan branch has brought greater opportunities for subsidiaries and business operations SPG, he said.

As a pathfinder of SPG in seeking development in Hainan, the new branch is leverage favorable local policies and resources, explore new business contribute to the group's development as a world-class seaport operator with international links and a leading reputation.

The spokesman said that in the meantime, unremitting efforts would be made in forging synergies with local economic and social developments, in a bid to contribute SPG's strengths to the development of Hainan free trade port.
