SPG eco-forest, free books enlighten Xinjiang minds

A ceremony was held on April 8 to donate wind-proofing and sand-fixing forestation materials – donated from SPG, or the Shandong Port Group – to the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and the unveiling ceremony of SPG Book House was also held in Kashgar prefecture, in the region.

Prior to the ceremony, Liu Zhongguo, the deputy Party secretary and the board director of SPG, handed over a special donation to the city.

The event – which was themed on "donating a tree, protecting a green, and guarding a home" – involved SPG staff.

All 60,000 employees from the group – which is one of the biggest port operators in China – participated in the donation and raised 1.53 million yuan ($233,263) to contribute a piece of SPG green" to the environmental windproof and sand consolidation project, in so doing making a contribution to the development of a green society in Xinjiang.

In addition to the implementation of the green aid to Xinjiang, SPG also organized cultural contributions for the region.

Young staff and workers donated more than 1,700 books to No 4 Middle School, contributing to the learning and development of primary and secondary school students in Xinjiang.
