Departing from the city of Sanmenxia in central China's Henan province, a container freight train carrying 26 TEUs, or twenty-foot equivalent units of local agricultural products, recently arrived at the Qingdao Port of the Shandong Port Group or SPG – one of the world's biggest port operators, which is based in Qingdao in East China's Shandong province.

The goods were then sent from the port to Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia through seaborne transportation, according to local media on May 13.

It is the first Sanmenxia-Qingdao outbound container freight train service to be operated by SPG unit – the Shandong Port Logistics Group – which marks the further optimization of its multimodal transport network in the Henan areas.

To offer full-process logistics services featuring more convenient, efficient, quality and low costs for local import and export enterprises, the Shandong Port Logistics Group has joined forces with Sanmenxia's customs, railway and local companies – to further optimize the allocation of logistics resources.

The goal is to fully leverage its land-sea connection multimodal platform, make efforts to streamline the new Sanmenxia-Qingdao sea-rail intermodal transport channel, as well as accelerate the construction of a new full-process, all-area and full-chain logistics channel.

In mid-May, the logistic group is set to launch an online information system – called the land-sea connection – for the Sanmenxia customs inspection site. The aim is to provide an open platform for coordinating port-related institutions, connecting Qingdao Port and the logistics company.

It will share useful information, advance the construction of SPG's 20th inland port, as well as make concrete endeavors to help create a new development pattern.
