Shandong Port Group Co Ltd – the provincial State-owned enterprise based in Qingdao city in East China's Shandong province, which was established on Aug 6, 2019 – is currently the world's largest port operator.

The group – consisting of Qingdao Port, Yantai Port, Rizhao Port and Bohai Bay Port – operates 19 major ports and port areas and more than 320 production berths and has more than 60,000 employees.

Since it was founded, SPG has accelerated the process of restructuring, development and planning for the future.

Last year, SPG's cargo throughput topped 1.4 billion tons, with year-on-year growth of 7.5 percent, an annual freight volume growth that ranked it first in the world.

Its container throughput exceeded 30 million TEUs – twenty-foot equivalent units, the standard container size – up 6.5 percent year-on-year, making SPG the third biggest container port operator in the world and second in China. Its sea-rail intermodal transportation capacity exceeded 2 million TEUs, continuing to rank first in China.

"Specialization", "Smart & Green" and "Intensification" have become the maxims of the ports giant.

Currently, the group operates in 11 business segments: shipping, trade, logistics, sci-tech, equipment manufacturing, overseas development, financial services, ports construction, city-industry integration, cruises and tourism, as well as in vocational education.
