Shandong Port Group, or SPG, recently made another achievement, with the total cargo throughput hitting 1,421.15 million tons on Dec 5, surpassing last year's total 26 days ahead of schedule. It is considered another impressive breakthrough by the port group after the container volume beat last year's total volume 30 days ahead of schedule.

A total of 34 new container routes were opened this year, including 25 overseas trade routes, effectively ensuring the smooth flow of international shipping and stabilizing the circulation of industrial chains and supply chains.

In addition, SPG has developed 24 inland ports, opened 72 sea-rail combined freight trains, and transported more than 2.3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) this year.

The port group's four major subsidiaries – Rizhao Port, Yantai Port and Bohai Bay Port, with Qingdao Port serving as the core port of the business, contributed an increase of over 20 percent in container volume compared with the same period last year, and the amount of containers increased significantly, achieving remarkable results in the coordinated development of integration efforts and effective strategies by SPG.
