The winners of the 2021 Shandong Province Science and Technology Awards were honored at the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference on June 22 in Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong.

During the event, Shandong Port Group (SPG) received praise for two scientific advancements, and as the first of its kind in Asia, the fully automated container terminal at SPG's Qingdao Port won the provincial science and technology progress award's top honor.

Only machines and robots are used to load and unload cargo containers at the automated container terminal at Qingdao Port, which was developed independently by SPG. The associated technologies have received global recognition and have been put to use at automated container ports both domestically and overseas.

SPG has recently placed a high priority on fostering innovation in science and technology. More than 140 national patents have been handled by the automated container terminal at Qingdao Port, and the port's research teams have published over 90 scientific papers. Additionally, the terminal won more than 20 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards.
