SPG, or Shandong Port Group, held a launch ceremony for seven shipping routes and one freight train route on Aug 8 in Qingdao.

Since June, SPG has joined hands with 11 renowned shipping companies both at home and abroad such as CMA CGM, MSC, PIL and Zhonggu Shipping, and opened five direct routes linking countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and routes for Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) countries, as well as the "Qingdao Port - Suifenhe" sea-rail combined transport route.

The newly opened shipping routes are designed to meet the transport demands arising from North America and Southeast Asia markets. As such, more than 10,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) slots will be offered for imports and exports. This will comprehensively strengthen SPG's advantageous routes with Belt and Road countries and RCEP member states, and improve its advantageous configuration for direct sea routes to North and South America.

Furthermore, it will satisfy the demand of customers along the Yellow River Basin for freight capacity and slots, and help them export goods by offering seaborne services. By doing so, strong support will be provided for ensuring the stable and unimpeded operation of supply and industrial chains.

The company's 80th container freight train, namely the "Qingdao Port - Suifenhe" freight train, was launched also during the event. The sea-rail combined transport route will give full play to SPG's advantages in pooling resources together and Suifenhe's favorable geographic location, further tap into the potential of "railway + international freight train", and comprehensively smooth out the logistics channel to European countries. Moreover, a new logistics channel of higher efficiency, lower costs and better services will be created for import and export enterprises, which will further ensure the stability of regional economic chains, and better serve major national strategies such as the BRI, and the dual circulation new development pattern.

Seizing opportunities presented by the entry into force of the RCEP agreement, SPG has worked together with major shipping companies to open more shipping routes as part of its efforts to improve the configuration of international transshipment channels, and build itself into a significant hub traversing all of China. All these attempts aim to further bolster the company's competitiveness as a shipping hub.
