Winners of the Science and Technology Award of China Port Association were announced recently, and Shandong Port Group (SPG), the world's largest port conglomerate in terms of cargo capacity, received a number of honors for its smart port construction.

The project - Research and Application of Key Technologies of Whole Process Automation and Intelligent Control in Dry Bulk Terminal - declared by Qingdao Port, a subsidiary of SPG, won the special prize.

Since its establishment in 2019, SPG has been committed to developing itself into a world-class smart and green port. In the past three years, the group has adhered to an innovation-driven development strategy, and made breakthroughs in the group's intelligent transformation and upgrading, such as building the world's first air-track intelligent transport system, which marked China's significant step forward in constructing intelligent ports.

The project declared by Qingdao Port includes an independently-developed data-driven business process system of dry bulk cargo terminals, which utilizes the automated and standardized operations of the whole production process at the terminals. It is also a significant move for SPG to promote the transition of its traditional wharf from labor-intensive growth toward efficient, clean and sustainable growth, enabling the group to achieve the goal of building itself into a smart and green port.
