On June 21, 2019 the Associated Icelandic Ports – Faxaflóahafnir – held their annual general meeting. The figures for 2018 in the annual report showed that 352,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalents) were transported through the port. At the fishing port 119,437 tons in catches were landed, and almost 140,000 passengers visited the port on 170 vessels that called into the port in 2018.

For 2019, 200,000 passengers visited the port. Total tonnage through the port was 3.8 million tons and 1,474 vessels called at the port. At the meeting it was announced that the government of Iceland intends to present a bill later this year banning ships from burning heavy fuel oil within Iceland's territorial waters.
