Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group (SPG) has made significant strides in green port construction, with its shore power supply this year already surpassing the total amount in 2023.
From January to April, the shore power supply at Qingdao Port reached 2.68 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), a remarkable year-on-year increase of 257 percent. It is anticipated that the annual shore power supply will exceed 8 million kWh, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions of around 6,500 metric tons. This underscores Qingdao Port's commitment to advancing green and low-carbon initiatives, promoting high-quality development, and enhancing shore power operations through integrated reform and innovation-driven strategies.
Qingdao Port has long prioritized environmental protection, particularly in the implementation of high-voltage shore power for container ships, with a focus on refined management and robust measures to preserve the port's exceptional ecological environment.
Through integrated reform efforts, Qingdao Port is dedicated to expanding the regular use of shore power. By coordinating high and low voltage shore power facilities, the aim is to achieve full coverage at berths. The port has introduced a confirmation-of-every-ship management model to establish a systematic, professional, and standardized system for managing shore power. Quantifiable shore power assessment metrics and a range of incentive policies have been implemented, alongside enhanced communication and the establishment of shore power agreements with 18 shipping companies.
