Construction for China's first 200 TEU all-electric intelligent remote-controlled container ship began June 30.

This pioneering vessel, a collaborative effort between Shandong Marine Corporation, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited's No 712 Research Institute (CSSC 712), and Harbin Engineering University, is entirely digitized in its design process, featuring remote control, unmanned operation, autonomous decision-making, and intelligent diagnostics functionalities.

Designed to meet the stringent net-zero emission standards of the International Maritime Organization, the ship, once operational along the shores of Jiaozhou Bay, is poised to annually reduce emissions by 1,645 metric tons. This establishes a comprehensive demonstration of intelligent zero-carbon transportation spanning the entire "port-shipping-storage" chain.

Additionally, the vessel is set to be the first to apply for the R1 intelligent ship symbol as an all-electric intelligent maritime craft. The ship will achieve unmanned remote control in intricate waters and autonomous navigation in expansive maritime domains by leveraging Shandong Marine Corporation's digital communication and intelligent dispatching platform, integrating CSSC 712's ship electric power control system, and incorporating Harbin Engineering University's intelligent control technology.

Upon integration with automated container terminals, the ship will establish an entirely unmanned intelligent operational chain – from loading and unloading to transportation.

Equipped with China's pioneering submerged medium suppression battery modules, the vessel innovatively employs high and low voltage shore power direct charging and a containerized power supply for all-weather battery swapping energy supply scheme, enabling intelligent energy mode switching from tailored to diverse operational scenarios.
