SPG Bohaiwan Port launches hydrogen demonstration project
Bohaiwan Port has recently opened China's first fully integrated green-hydrogen demonstration at Weifang Port, part of Shandong Port Group (SPG), linking production, storage, transport, and use in a single port ecosystem.

This innovative project integrates wind power fluctuations with hydrogen energy storage, converting surplus wind energy into hydrogen through intelligent dynamic electrolysis technology. It consumes 5 million kWh of green electricity annually, reducing hydrogen production costs by over 1.65 million yuan ($230,170).
The project includes a hydrogen refueling station with a capacity of 500 kilograms per 12 hours and an electrolysis hydrogen production station with a capacity of 200 cubic nanometers per hour.
The refueling station, equipped with dual hydrogen unloading columns, dual refueling nozzles, a 9 cu m hydrogen storage cylinder group, and a comprehensive station building, can store 300 kilograms of compressed hydrogen daily, meeting the needs of 10 hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks.

Developed with local hydrogen suppliers, the project also serves as a training ground that cultivates technicians fluent in both hydrogen systems and port operations. Authorities say the scheme advances Shandong's "zero-carbon port" goals and provides a replicable model for nationwide port decarbonization.
