SPG invests Yunnan rubber hub to serve BRI
A green, smart logistics park dedicated to natural rubber started operations on Sept 18 in Jinghong city, Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province. The park, which is run by Shandong Port Group (SPG), marks the group's latest inland expansion along the China-Laos Railway. It is expected to bolster Yunnan's role as a gateway to South and Southeast Asian markets under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Built by a joint venture formed by Yunnan Natural Rubber Industry Group, Qingdao Port International Logistics Group and China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone Investment Development Group, the 4.91-hectare park holds three warehouses with capacity for 50,000 metric tons of rubber, coffee beans or industrial silicon.
Besides storage, it offers bonded space, domestic and international trans-shipment, and futures delivery services, aiming to become a modern supply chain hub integrating storage, processing, trade, and finance.
Since 2022, Shandong Port Logistics Group has been building high-standard warehouses in Yunnan, including in Kunming and Xishuangbanna, to store local specialty goods. The Kunming warehouse serves as the designated delivery warehouse for the Guangzhou Futures Exchange's industrial silicon futures, generating the first such warehouse receipt in China, moving "seaport functions to the doorstep" of Yunnan producers.
SPG plans to continue expanding its supply chain services and collaborating with partners to boost regional industrial upgrading and border opening-up.
