Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group (SPG) set a global benchmark after the Mette Maersk vessel completed a 24,804.75 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) cargo operation and left ahead of schedule. This achievement represents the highest single-vessel handling volume recorded within the Gemini Cooperation, highlighting the port's efficiency and reliability.

Behind the milestone were coordinated efforts from berth planning to real-time operations. Teams at Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal (QQCT), the pilot station, and the command center worked closely to ensure the vessel could berth immediately and start work without delay. Detailed preparation — factoring in vessel specifications, berth capacity, and crane deployment — allowed for a seamless, high-speed turnaround.

The port's approach goes beyond execution. By prioritizing key shipping routes, Qingdao Port has developed a structured operational system that includes equipment readiness, workflow planning, and digital support. Potential bottlenecks are identified early, responsibilities are well-defined, and each stage is managed precisely from start to finish.

This blend of foresight and fine-tuned control enabled the record-breaking performance and earned recognition from the shipping line.

As a major hub in northern China, Qingdao Port continues to push the boundaries of smart, efficient port operations — delivering faster, more reliable services for global shipping partners.
