Zheng Yucai, a deputy to the National People's Congress, will tell the national two sessions on May 22 that he cares about how to retain technical professionals in the small counties of China.
Zheng has a professional interest in the challenge. He is director of the equipment department of Zhejiang Xi-sheng Electronic Co Ltd in Kaihua, a county in Quzhou, Zhejiang province.
As an NPC deputy representing frontline workers, Zheng has first-hand experience of the importance of technologically innovative professionals in a company.
He said that such professionals are far more important to companies during the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, as companies need to have more technological innovation to survive the difficult times.
In 2019, Zheng visited 134 companies in Kaihua and received feedback from them that they find it hard to retain technical professionals and it has become one of the key factors restricting them from further development.
"To settle down in Kaihua, I need to think about some practical problems, such as a wedding and buying a house," said Feng Xiaojuan, an R&D engineer at Zhejiang Haina Semiconductor Co Ltd, adding that to buy a house in Kaihua is a little more expensive than that in her hometown in Hubei province.
Zheng collected and analyzed all the problems he received. He concluded that companies in the small counties need to solve all the practical worries of recruited technical professionals if they want to retain them and local government also needs to issue more preferential policies for these professionals.
