Construction of the Sky City project – located in Jingning She autonomous county in Lishui city, in East China's Zhejiang province – is now in its latter stage and the main structure is already taking shape.

The project, with a total investment of about 1.5 billion yuan ($231.32 million), is being built on an abandoned iron ore mining area.

Through an eco-friendly revamp – with cultural motifs and artistic designs – it aims to position itself as an international high-end tourist destination that features sightseeing, entertainment and culture and also offers business facilities.

According to officials, besides restaurants and guest rooms, Sky City will have an outdoor swimming pool, a hot springs spa center, a museum and a music hall, among its other facilities.

Some of the facilities are due to start trial operations in September.
