East China's Zhejiang province produced 1.74 million vehicles in 2024, a 14.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Economy and Information Technology Department of Zhejiang.
Notably, new energy vehicle production surpassed 900,000 units for the first time. The annual new vehicle sales reached 1.68 million units, up 11.8 percent year-on-year.
Domestic manufacturers are at the forefront of this surge. Zhejiang-based Geely recorded global sales of 3.34 million vehicles in 2024, reflecting a 22 percent rise as its new models gained market acceptance.
Meanwhile, Leap Motor saw its sales double to 294,000 units, with monthly deliveries exceeding 40,000 in the fourth quarter and the company achieving quarterly profitability ahead of schedule.
Zhejiang is accelerating its push into intelligent mobility.
The recently released Zhejiang Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Industry Development Action Plan (2025–27) sets a target of producing 1.5 million intelligent new energy vehicles by 2027, aiming to bolster the industry's competitiveness and drive the region's next phase of automotive innovation.
