Over 1,600 cyclists gather in Quzhou for cycling race

Over 1,600 cycling enthusiasts gathered in Kaihua county – in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province – to go for glory in the second Qianjiangyuan Road Cycling Race, held on March 30.

The event included the Men's Elite, Women's Elite, Men's Challenge, and Women's Challenge categories.

All categories followed a unified 106-kilometer course starting from Zuigen Square, passing through attractions like the Root Palace Buddhist Cultural Tourism Zone, and returning to the square.

The new route connected Kaihua's iconic natural and cultural landmarks, offering cyclists some simply stunning views.

After spirited competition, Italy's Nicolas Marini claimed victory in the Men's Elite group with a time of 2 hr 29 min 40 sec. China's Li Si was the first past the post in the Women's Elite group, finishing in 2:57:88.

Marini expressed his delight at winning, noting the challenging yet beautiful course and his enjoyment of the ride. He said he hoped to return for next year's event.

Kaihua has been focusing on integrating its sports with cultural tourism, leveraging the brand and economic impact of sports events. The county has hosted major competitions like the National Men's Weightlifting Championship and the Qianjiangyuan Marathon.
