Jiaxing, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, made the decision to promote the innovative integration of 5G and industrial internet this year by implementing 10 new measures, according to a meeting held on June 10.

The city will encourage local companies to upgrade their networks, establish 25 industrial internet platforms, digitalize all manufacturing companies in the city worth more than 100 million yuan ($14.11 million), and promote the development and application of industrial big data, according to Ni Ying, deputy director of the Jiaxing Municipal Commission of the Economy and Information Technology.

Ni added that Jiaxing will focus on 15 "5G plus industrial internet" projects and establish an industrial internet innovation center this year.

Jiaxing will also offer financial support to local companies that make efforts to integrate 5G with industrial internet.

Companies and institutions that participate in the formulation of international and national standards for intelligent manufacturing will be awarded 1 million yuan and 500,000 yuan, respectively.

Companies that are recognized as models for the integrated application of new technologies and intelligent manufacturing will receive 500,000 yuan in awards.

In 2019, 5G entered commercial use in China as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued its first 5G commercial licenses in June.

As one of 50 cities in China to pilot the commercial use of 5G, Jiaxing has been building 5G base stations since March last year.

Jiaxing has now established 4,003 5G base stations and has a total of 3,496 5G network users, more than any other cities in Zhejiang.

The city has also been promoting the integration of 5G and industrial internet over the past year. For example, Xin Feng Ming Group Co Ltd has established 5G-enabled intelligent factories and an industrial internet platform that combines industrial chains, logistics chains, and service chains.
