Daoji is a 5G-enabled farm in Wuzhen town, Jiaxing, which is also the permanent site for the annual World Internet Conference, according a local news report on Jan 17.
Invested by the Zhejiang Daoji Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co, the Daoji farm houses four smart glasshouses on an area covering more than 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares).
Due to the 5G technology, tomato plants of 20 varieties in the glasshouses have the same fruit number and weight.
These plants are grown on rock wool, which features strong water absorption and retention, as well as can also reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests with a clean cultivation environment. Each of the rock wool is inserted with a cube carrying water and nutrient solution.
With 5G technology, staff members at the farm can control and monitor irrigation in real time. They can also accurately monitor the humidity and pH value of rock wool, which can help determine the delivery amount of water and nutrient solution to tomato plants.
As a result, the annual yield per mu at the farm can be improved about 200 percent.
The transmission rate of a 5G network is a dozen times faster than a 4G network, which can further improve not only the control accuracy and stability of robots and drones, but also the speed, real-time degree, and precision of data transmission.
5G technology creates a bright future for the agricultural industry by upgrading its research and development, production management, as well as after-sales service.
