Jiaxing's foreign trade value sets monthly record in Aug

The foreign trade value of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province increased 26 percent year-on-year to 33.97 billion yuan ($5.26 billion) in August, a record monthly high, statistics from Jiaxing Customs showed.
The export value jumped 21.2 percent year-on-year to 25.36 billion yuan, while the import value surged 42.5 percent year-on-year to 8.61 billion yuan.
The United States, European Union, Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Latin America, and Japan were the city's five largest export markets in August with respective export values of 5.92 billion yuan, 5.49 billion yuan, 2.34 billion yuan, 1.53 billion yuan, as well as 1.5 billion yuan.
ASEAN, EU, South Korea, and Japan were Jiaxing's four largest import markets in the same month, with respective values of 2.48 billion yuan, 1.26 billion yuan, 990 million yuan, as well as 680 billion yuan.
Jiaxing's export and import values to the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased 12 percent and 92.2 percent year-on-year respectively 7.12 billion yuan and 3.13 billion yuan.
In August, the city's exports in mechanical and electrical products, as well as high-tech products maintained double-digit increases with total values of 11.26 billion yuan and 2.9 billion yuan respectively.
Its imports in high-tech products, mechanical and electrical products, as well as farm produce increased 160 percent, 57.2 percent, as well as 53.4 percent year-on-year respectively to 1.49 billion yuan, 2.59 billion yuan, and 790 million yuan.
In the first eight months of the year, Jiaxing's foreign trade totaled 239.63 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.9 percent.
Its export value increased 29.1 percent year-on-year to 176.23 billion yuan, while its import value soared 40.3 percent year-on-year to 63.4 percent.
