Jiaxing sets record in foreign trade surplus in Oct

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province had a record 17.94 billion yuan ($2.71 billion) in foreign trade surplus in October, up 26.4 percent year-on-year, statistics from Jiaxing Customs showed.

In October alone, the city's foreign trade value increased 9.3 percent year-on-year to 32.96 billion yuan.

Jiaxing's foreign trade, export values, and import values experienced a 5 percent month-on-month increase, a 12.3 percent month-on-month increase, as well as a 13.8 percent month-on-month decrease in the same month.

The city's five largest export markets were the United States, the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Japan, and Latin America in October. Its export to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 6.96 billion yuan in the same month, up 7.1 percent year-on-year.

Japan, EU, South Korea, as well as Africa were Jiaxing's main import markets, with respective volumes of 1.16 billion yuan, 970 million yuan, 880 million yuan, and 550 million yuan.

The city's imports and exports totaled 304 billion yuan in the first 10 months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 25.2 percent.

Jiaxing's export value amounted to 224.33 billion yuan, up 23.2 percent year-on-year, while its import value reached 79.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.1 percent.
