Local residents of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province are more satisfied with their natural environment, according to the survey result from the provincial authority.

The public satisfaction survey involves local residents' recognition, participation, satisfaction, and confidence in their natural environment, with the public satisfaction index of the natural environment in Jiaxing ranking fourth in the province this year, three places higher than last year.

In the first 11 months of the year, the water quality of all the centralized drinking water sources in counties and county-level cities of Jiaxing met the standard, the proportion of days with good air quality stood at 92.1 percent, and the concentration of PM 2.5 in Jiaxing's downtown area was 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

The city's success can be attributed to the efforts made by the local government.

In the January to November period, Jiaxing dealt with 779 environmental illegality cases, ranking second in Zhejiang, and imposed fines worth 71.69 million yuan ($11.26 million), ranking third provincewide.

Jiaxing has also encouraged local residents to be part of the city's environmental protection efforts. Currently, the city has recruited 2,552 environmental inspectors who have discovered and fixed 4,885 problems.
