Jiaxing posts 8.5% GDP growth in 2021

The GDP of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province totaled 635.53 billion yuan ($100.35 billion) in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent, local media reported on Jan 22.
The city's average GDP growth over the past two years was 6 percent, 0.9 percentage points higher than the national average and the same as the provincial average.
The per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents in Jiaxing stood at 69,839 yuan and 43,598 yuan, respectively, year-on-year increases of 8.9 percent and 9.5 percent.
The ratio of urban to rural residents in the city was 1.6, the smallest urban-rural gap in Zhejiang.
Jiaxing set aside more than 63.11 billion yuan to improve the wellbeing of local residents in 2021, accounting for 79.5 percent of its general public budget expenditure.
The city also saw an improved natural environment last year, with the good air quality rate of downtown areas rising 2.7 percent from last year and PM 2.5 concentration decreasing 3.6 percent year-on-year.
The city's foreign trade surged 24 percent year-on-year to 378.38 billion yuan, 1.6 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
Its export jumped 23.3 percent year-on-year to 280.08 billion yuan, while its imports soared 26.1 percent year-on-year to 26.1 percent.
In 2021, Jiaxing approved 356 foreign-invested projects, including 73 projects with an investment of more than $100 million, and its actual utilization of foreign capital was $3.04 billion, ranking third in Zhejiang with a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.
