Where to celebrate Lantern Festival in Jiaxing

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which is Feb 15 this year. Here are the recommended places to celebrate the festival in Jiaxing.

Nanhu Lake scenic area

Local residents can visit the Nanhu Lake scenic area on the day of the Lantern Festival to try their hands at lantern-making, paper-cutting for window decoration, and playing with shadow puppets.

They can also place a wishing lamp onto Nanhu Lake to pray for a happy and safe year.

Ancient Xincheng town

One should not miss the Aoshan lantern exhibition, also known as the Turtle-shaped lantern exhibition, in Xincheng town, Xiuzhou district, which originated in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

This year, the exhibition is displaying more than 500 lanterns from residents of Xicheng town residents, including a turtle-shaped lantern with a height of four meters.

There is a saying in Wuzhen town that if one crosses 100 bridges, he/she can rid themselves of 100 diseases. Employees in the Wuzhen scenic area will wear traditional Chinese clothing and help tourists walk over various bridges to pray for good health on this year's Lantern Festival.
