Jiaxing's ninth Congress of the Communist Party of China commenced in the city on Feb 23, local media reported.

Local CPC members from all walks of life listened as Zhang Bing, executive chairman of the congress and Party secretary of Jiaxing, delivered a report, highlighting the significant achievements made by the city over the past five years.

In 2021, Jiaxing's GDP reached 635.53 billion yuan ($100.62 billion), with an average annual increase rate of 7 percent from 2017 to 2021, and its total fiscal revenue amounted to 112.28 billion yuan.

Over the past five years, Jiaxing has witnessed a healthy private sector, with its number of market entities exceeding 650,000, including 71 listed companies, and its actual utilization of foreign capital totaling $11.75 billion, ranking third in Zhejiang and including 95 projects invested by Global Fortune 500 companies.

In 2021, the value of Jiaxing's imports and exports was 378.38 billion yuan, including 280.08 billion yuan in exports. From 2017 to 2021, the total direct overseas investment by Jiaxing companies was valued at $11.2 billion.

The per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents in Jiaxing stood at 69,839 yuan and 43,598 yuan, respectively. The ratio of urban to rural residents in the city was 1.6, the smallest urban-rural gap in Zhejiang.

Jiaxing was recognized as a national demonstration city in environmental protection last year, making it one of three cities in Zhejiang to receive the honor.

The water quality of all centralized drinking water sources in Jiaxing are now up to standard and the proportion of days with good air quality in downtown Jiaxing stood at 90.1 percent in 2021.
