Jiaxing Port in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, ranked 85th in the world in container throughput in 2021, six places higher than the previous year, according to a recent report by the Shanghai International Shipping Institute.
In 2021, the container throughput of Jiaxing Port witnessed the highest growth in Zhejiang with a 13.61 percent year-on-year increase to more than 2.22 million twenty-foot equivalent units.
In January of this year, Jiaxing Port handled 12.11 million metric tons of cargo, including 229,600 TEUs, with respective year-on-year increases of 10.28 percent and 46.72 percent.
The performance of sea-river combined transportation is especially impressive, as more than 2.33 million tons of cargo, including 52,600 TEUs, were handled at Jiaxing Port via sea-river-combined transportation in January.
Over the next few years, Jiaxing will further improve its shipping infrastructure and business environment and pursue intelligent and eco-friendly development in the shipping industry.
By 2025, Jiaxing Port is expected to have 250 kilometers of 1,000-ton channels and be capable of handling 150 million tons of cargo per year, including 3.5 million TEUs, and house 45 10,000-ton-or-above sea berths and 80 inland berths.
In addition, the port will simplify its customs clearance procedures, promote integrated monitoring with inland ports in northern Zhejiang, and cultivate more agent companies for inland water container transportation.
The port will also establish an online supply chain service platform for inland river container transportation.
