Recently, 21 international students from nine different countries, including Russia, Germany, Thailand, and Indonesia, participated in a salon event at Haizhu National Wetland Park in Guangzhou. They explored the wetland biodiversity along the central axis of the city.
Starting their research journey from a sterculia monosperma tree at the park entrance, the students were fascinated by the tropical flora. The Sterculia monosperma tree, common in southern China and Southeast Asia, is known as the "phoenix eye fruit" due to its resemblance to a phoenix's eye.
The students displayed a strong interest in the plants and animals of Haizhu Wetland, especially when they observed flocks of herons circling above Birdwatching Island, prompting them to capture the beautiful natural scenery with their mobile devices. They believe that environmental protection is a collective responsibility shared by all inhabitants of the Earth.
Haizhu Wetland has become Guangzhou's first national wetland park, home to 197 bird species, 835 vascular plants, and 738 insect species. Through nature education programs and branded activities, millions of people participate each year.
It has been listed in the International Important Wetlands List. It is poised to continue exploring the path of wetland conservation, creating a model of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature and providing more wetland wisdom to address global ecological issues.
In the future, Haizhu Wetland will further promote domestic and international nature education exchanges, welcoming visitors from around the world to showcase the charm of Chinese traditional culture and nature education.
