The lecture hall combines function rooms with a fine library for reading. It's collected a variety of books – including traditional Chinese classics, revolutionary classics and children's popular science books – for locals and tourists to explore and immerse themselves in knowledge.
The Shixiangyuan Memorial Hall will also host exhibitions of Chinese paintings – displaying the natural landscape and cultural heritage of the Lingnan region.
The building was the former residence of renowned Lingnan painters Ju Chao and Ju Lian. It is known as the cradle of the Lingnan School of Painting – having nurtured numerous artistic talent, including the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, Gao Jianfu and Chen Shuren.
The academy will actively also explore the new spirit of the Lingnan Academy, inherit and develop Lingnan culture and strive to be an important site for civilized practices – all aimed at promoting the inheritance and development of Lingnan culture.
