In total, Hainan has 818,300 registered volunteers serving 16 sectors such as tourism, residential communities, transportation, education and environment protection, according to statistics from the Communist Youth League of Hainan.
Among them, 3,373 volunteers from Hainan devote themselves to supporting education undertakings in the central and west regions of the island province.
Every year, during the annual Boao Forum for Asia held in Qionghai, volunteers from all walks of life on the island offer help in various ways to guarantee the smooth running of the meetings. They can be seen in every corner -- at airports, railway stations, registration sites, and the meeting places.

The Communist Youth League of Hainan and the supervision department of the Hainan Volunteers Union have jointly introduced regulations to help standardize volunteer service management and further enhance the civilization level of local residents, Xinhua reported.
"Students from universities are major parts of volunteers. Volunteer service is included in university teaching procedures in order to encourage more students to join the volunteer union," said Gai Wenqi, head of the department.
Universities and local government departments are also encouraged to build professional volunteer teams for emergency aid, medical services and anti-drug efforts.
Hainan has organized many activities such as volunteer service competitions, construction of volunteer service bases to help raise funds, and upgrading of volunteers' capacities to ensure sound development of its volunteer service.
