The opening ceremony of the 5th sports meet of Hainan province will be held at the Sanya Sports Center on Aug 8.
The comprehensive provincial-level sports event has the largest scale, longest duration and highest competitiveness in the province and has gained extensive attention after six years' absence.
Altogether 288 competitive items in 15 categories are being held in Sanya, Haikou, Wenchang, Chengmai and Wanning from July 5 to Aug 18, and a further 48 general public events will end by Oct 14.
According to an official of the Department of Culture, Radio, Television, Publication and Sports of Hainan Province, the event showcases Hainan's sports achievements in the past 30 years and helps promote national public fitness.
The sports meet is sponsored by the Hainan Provincial People's Government and organized by the Department of Culture, Radio, Television, Publication and Sports of Hainan Province and the Sanya Municipal People's Government.
