Foreign guests visited Hainan Qilou Old Street in Haikou to sample local cuisine and take in the island province's culture on Aug 28. They had earlier attended a marketing event hosted by the AsiaNet Board.

The representatives came from countries such as Australia, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam and Bangladesh.

It was the first annual meeting of the AsiaNet Board held in Hainan province and also the first media exchange gathering media representatives from home and abroad after Hainan sought development as a pilot free trade zone and a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.

The AsiaNet Board was established in 1995 and consists of 12 news agencies in the Asian-Pacific region. Its global influence goes up year by year as its network system expands into over 5,000 online media outlets in 34 countries. Two annual meetings are held each year, one in spring and another in autumn, with the locations selected among cities of its member countries.
