To further boost Hainan's offshore duty-free market and promote consumption, on Feb 22 the island province started to offer 160,000 offshore duty-free coupons worth a total of 8 million yuan ($1.24 million).
The Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce joined hands with five stores - Sanya International Duty-Free City, Sanya Phoenix International Airport Duty-Free Shop, Haikou Riyue Plaza Duty-Free Shop, Haikou Meilan Airport Duty-Free Shop and Qionghai Bo'ao Duty-Free Shop - to launch these coupons, which shoppers can use while purchasing duty-free goods in the aforementioned shops.
The 50-yuan coupons are available via the "Hainan Pass" app and can be used for duty-free items such as perfumes, cosmetics, groceries, clothing, leather goods and bags, watches and jewelry.
From Feb 22, users can log in to the "Hainan Pass" app or use WeChat or Alipay to search for the "Hainan Pass" applet, and click on "Hainan Offshore Duty-Free Voucher" after authorization to enter the homepage. Each person can receive two 50-yuan coupons.
The tax-free vouchers distributed this time will expire on Feb 28. During the validity period of the coupons, users can get 50 yuan off when purchasing products in shops by displaying the code on the app.
