Xichang Satellite Launch Center and Wenchang municipal people's government signed a cooperation agreement on space culture and tourism at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on March 16. They will jointly build the world-class Wenchang Space Launch Site and Wenchang International Space City.

During the preparation process, Xichang Satellite Launch Center, Hainan province, and Wenchang jointly conducted in-depth research, systematic analysis, and consultations with experts on the current development status of space culture and tourism.
According to the functional positioning and long-term planning of the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site, they included space culture and tourism development in the urban planning, industrial layout, rural revitalization, culture and education, as well as emergency management of Wenchang International Space City.
The Wenchang Space Launch Site was approved for project establishment in August 2007 and was approved for use in October 2014. It has carried out 16 space launches, including China's Tianhe space station, the Tianzhou cargo spacecraft, Chang'e-5, and Tianwen-1.
An official at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center said that the center will cooperate with the Wenchang government in the future to make full use of the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site's comprehensive benefits. It will also enhance Hainan's scientific and technological image through commercial aerospace development, drive local economic development through aerospace commercial construction as well as build the launch site into a world-renowned aerospace cultural tourism destination.
