The Haikou Xinhai ro-ro passenger terminal project, which is being undertaken by CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, or CCCC, completed its main structure construction recently.

The installation of glass curtain walls and the laying of metal roofs are currently in progress. Construction on the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Upon completion, it will become the country's largest ro-ro passenger hub.

Construction on the Xinhai hub project started in October 2020. It covers a total land area of 560,000 square meters, with the construction area of the comprehensive passenger transport hub being 83,200 sq m. It is a key project for the integration of ports and shipping in the Qiongzhou Strait, as well as an important supporting facility for the customs clearance operation of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

"After completion, the number of passengers passing through each year can reach 35 million, and the number of vehicles passing through each year can reach 3.2 million," said Yang Wenjie, the Xinhai Hub's project director at CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering.

Yang added that the "zero transfer" service for tourists to cross the strait will be realized by then, which will greatly improve the service level of Haikou Xinhai Port, as well as drive the development of surrounding tourism, cultural, and commercial supporting services, thus boosting the construction of the Hainan FTP.
