Hainan's COVID-19 outbreak enters phase-out period

On Aug 28, Sanya found no infected patients at the community level for the first time, and many other places in Hainan have reported zero infections, marking that the current outbreak has entered the phase-out period.

On Aug 29, a total of 1,565 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals in Hainan province. By the end of Aug 29, the number of cured and discharged cases totaled 14,272.

On Aug 29, new cases across the province were 76, reducing 44 of the 120 on the previous day, posting a drop of 36.7 percent, and the number of new cases fell below 100 for the first time.

Sanya has seen the number of infected cases decline steadily for 12 consecutive days, and the pandemic is basically under control. On Aug 28, Sanya's 27th round of NAT covered 680,000 people, and the 56 people that were infected were all under closed-loop management and control, with 78.6 percent of them in centralized quarantine and the others in-home quarantine. It is the first time that no infected patients at the community level were found since the recent outbreak was discovered in the city.

Two infected cases were reported in Chengmai's medium-risk area, and the number of newly infected cases in Danzhou decreased. Compared with Aug 28, Wanning reported two new cases, Dongfang reported two new cases, and Lingshui and Ledong each reported one new case, with those infected in quarantine. The number of reported cases in the above four cities and counties fluctuated in single digits, and there have been no reported cases at the community level for several consecutive days. Lingao had zero new cases, while Haikou reported three infected key personnel who were put under closed-loop management on Aug 29. No new cases have been found in Dingan, Wuzhishan, Qionghai, and Changjiang for several days.
