6th Sports Games of Hainan opens in Danzhou

The 6th Sports Games of Hainan kicked off in Danzhou, Hainan province on Dec 10 and is due to wrap up on Dec 14. The opening ceremony was held on the evening of Dec 10 in Danzhou.

The event is hosted by the People's Government of Hainan Province and organized by the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture, Radio, Television and Sports as well as the people's government of Danzhou city,

With the theme of "Simplicity, Brilliance and Safety", this year's provincial sports event will showcase the achievements made in terms of Hainan's sports development, test the level of competitive sports, and discover and train outstanding sporting talents. By giving full play to the importance of competitive sports, it will also promote health and fitness among the general public.

The games featured 16 competitive sports and 36 mass sports events, with the latter having already wrapped up last month on Nov 7.

A total of 18 cities and counties registered to join the sports competitions, with 4,016 athletes participating. Twenty venues from 19 cities and counties as well as the Hainan Vanguard Sports Association registered to compete in the mass sports events, with 3,294 athletes taking part in to set a new record.

Mascots Dan Dan and Yang Yang were inspired by Danzhou tunes, a national intangible cultural heritage item from the city, showing the unique charm and culture of Danzhou. The organization of the games also suggests a brighter future for Danzhou-Yangpu integrated development.
