On Dec 27, Tuniu, a leading online leisure travel company in China, released the 2023 New Year's Day tourism consumption trend report. According to the orders for travel during the New Year's Day holiday, Hainan ranked first among popular destinations for trans-provincial travel.
This New Year's Day holiday, peripheral travel is still the main theme of tourism, with 64 percent of related business transactions being for peripheral travel, which is an increase compared with the New Year's Day holiday in 2022. Consumers in Hainan, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Beijing, and Guangdong are more enthusiastic about peripheral travel.
Among all the peripheral travel scenic spots, Atlantis Sanya, Universal Beijing Resort, Chimelong Tourist Resort, and Shanghai Disneyland Resort are the most popular.

The number of orders for trans-provincial tourism during the New Year's Day holiday accounted for 36 percent. Orders for Hainan, Yunnan, Northeast China, Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Tibet, Inner Mongolia and other destinations continued to rise, with Hainan and Yunnan attracting nearly 70 percent of trans-provincial travelers.
On Dec 23, the 23rd Hainan Island Carnival was launched and the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture issued 10 million yuan ($1.4 million) of tourism coupons to stimulate consumption. Hainan destination searches continued to be hot, with the order volume increasing by more than 60 percent just in the last five days compared with the previous five days.
