Hainan's foreign trade up 21.8% in Jan-Feb

According to Haikou Customs, in the first two months of this year, the imports and exports of Hainan reached 34.49 billion yuan ($4.95 billion), up 21.8 percent year on year. Among them, exports were valued at 11.32 billion yuan, up 61 percent, while imports were valued at 23.17 billion yuan, up 8.9 percent.

Danzhou, Haikou and Sanya made up the top three in terms of total imports and exports, with values of 16.22 billion yuan, 10.93 billion yuan and 4.56 billion yuan, respectively.

The EU and ASEAN are Hainan's top two trade partners. In the first two months, Hainan's imports and exports to the EU amounted to 6.14 billion yuan, while trade with ASEAN reached 4.84 billion yuan. Over the same period, imports and exports to countries and regions along the Belt and Road reached 11.5 billion yuan, while trade with other RCEP member countries reached 10.51 billion yuan.

In the same period, the imports and exports of private enterprises in Hainan amounted to 19.33 billion yuan, accounting for 56 percent of the province's total foreign trade, and continued to maintain its position as the largest contributor to foreign trade. Foreign-invested enterprises' imports and exports reached 7.6 billion yuan, accounting for 22 percent of the total. That of State-owned enterprises amounted to 7.57 billion yuan, accounting for 21.9 percent.

Hainan imported 8.05 billion yuan in consumer goods, which is the largest category of imported goods in the province.

Mechanical and electrical products and petrolic products are the province's main exports. In the first two months, Hainan exported 3.16 billion yuan in mechanical and electrical products and 2.63 billion yuan in refined petrolic products. Biodiesel exports were valued at 1.47 billion yuan, and agricultural products were valued at 730 million yuan.
